We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Specialist, Inertial Sensors Systems Engineer.
This position supports a variety of mission-critical programs with specific focus on space applications.
This individual will play a vital role in engaging with external vendors and internal customers to specify, develop, and characterize inertial measurement and sensing systems for spacecraft.
This individual should have prior program experience with inertial sensor development such as design, performance metrics, inertial sensor usage, and system integration.
The successful individual will bring their passion for innovation and be able to adapt, communicate, and apply their expert understanding of navigation systems to the application at hand.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include defining inertial sensor and/or subsystem specifications and qualification requirements.
Perform technical analysis / feasibility for new product specifications, evaluate customer specifications, and support cost / technical proposal generation.
Identify, create, and document new sensing system metrics that deliver performance pertinent to system concept of operations and requirements.
Support Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) algorithm design and development, which may include performance assessments using theoretical and real-world data.
Support model development of algorithms utilizing Matlab / Simulink and use these models to analyze and improve their performance.
Scope new sensing technologies and proof-of-concept investigations.
Interact with suppliers and drive sensor designs to enable new and improved system capability and performance.
Development and execution of component and subsystem level test plans / procedures to validate features, functionality and performance, and support associated test readiness reviews.
Perform test data reduction, analysis, and test reporting.
Develop test requirements, methods, and test solutions from requirements flowed down as part of the systems engineering team.
Able to succinctly and effectively brief status and results to program and customer senior leadership.
Diagnose engineering issues with scientific method driving to definitive root cause.
Interface with production and support teams to ensure a quality customer experience throughout the product life-cycle.
'One Team' collaboration with internal subsystem team and multiple external suppliers, teammates, platform providers, and DoD organizations in execution of all integration and test activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.

years of hands-on experience and proven track record in inertial sensing hardware and software development.
Background in inertial navigation systems, GPS/GNSS technology, modern estimation (particularly Kalman filters), and/or modern controls.
Strong Analytical background capable of deriving closed form mathematical expressions.
Expertise in utilizing computer software tools such as Matlab to develop complex analytical models for performance prediction.
Familiarity with Matlab, C/C++, Python, or other software languages.
Experience working with or troubleshooting hardware and electronics.
Experience in architecture, design characterization, and validation of inertial sensing systems.
Proficient in inertial systems theory of operation, signal processing, fabrication, packaging and design trade-offs.
Fundamental knowledge and experience in physics, mechanical, electrical, and material science engineering, and manufacturing technology relevant for sensor fabrication.
Expertise in simulation, data collection, data analysis, and statistical analysis tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills.
Ability to make complex decisions with sparse data.
Strong drive and sense of ownership.
Ability to develop creative yet practical solutions to technical challenges.
Willingness and ability to travel are required.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Graduate degree in engineering.
Aerospace / Defense or equivalent industry experience.
Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.
Experience working programs from the design stage through field testing and selloff.
Demonstrated proposal-writing capability.
Demonstrated ability to derive navigation equations of motion, error modeling, finite time implementation of such, and Monte aCarlo Analysis.
Prior experience in the mechanical design and fabrication of Fiber Optic Gyros and IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units).

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
